Oh my。 Where do I even begin。 I was both excited and so terrified to pick up this book。 But I’m so glad I did。 This book is a feeling。 It wanders and meanders, then punches you right in the gut。 But it’s also beauty and poetry and life。 Aristotle and Dante are two of my favorite characters of all time。 They are just figuring things out and loving so hard。 And that all really worked for me。 I love being in Ari and Dante’s world。 That said, I could see this not working for people。 Like I said, the Oh my。 Where do I even begin。 I was both excited and so terrified to pick up this book。 But I’m so glad I did。 This book is a feeling。 It wanders and meanders, then punches you right in the gut。 But it’s also beauty and poetry and life。 Aristotle and Dante are two of my favorite characters of all time。 They are just figuring things out and loving so hard。 And that all really worked for me。 I love being in Ari and Dante’s world。 That said, I could see this not working for people。 Like I said, the plot meanders, and big things happen out of nowhere, but sometimes that’s life。 It’s also hard to picture actual 17 year old boys talking like this, but this book is poetry, so maybe it’s not meant to be realistic。 Everyone says exactly what they’re thinking and feeling, and sometimes it’s quite on the nose, but I like to hope we could all feel and communicate that clearly at some point。 While maybe not an all time favorite like the first one, this one is harder and realer, I’m so glad we got more of Aristotle and Dante。 We as readers are lucky to know them。 。。。more

There are a lot of expectations for a sequel that comes ten years later。 While at first I thought the text to be repetitive, slow, and a touch too literal, we are shown just what it means to grow up when you have no idea who you are or who you are going to be。 A love letter to first loves, friendships, and the people we lose along the way, I'm so happy we were able to see Aristotle and Dante find their ways。 There are a lot of expectations for a sequel that comes ten years later。 While at first I thought the text to be repetitive, slow, and a touch too literal, we are shown just what it means to grow up when you have no idea who you are or who you are going to be。 A love letter to first loves, friendships, and the people we lose along the way, I'm so happy we were able to see Aristotle and Dante find their ways。 。。。more

First of all I'd like to say thank you to the Publisher and netgalley for allowing me to have a copy of this book and i wish nothing but the best in life for the author。 That being said I requested this because I was looking forward to reading the first book and was anticipating it so much thinking I would love it and could move on to the second。 But unfortunately I got 100 pages in and it was not my cup of tea and I couldn't go any further。 So I will not be reading this book。 Also netgalley won First of all I'd like to say thank you to the Publisher and netgalley for allowing me to have a copy of this book and i wish nothing but the best in life for the author。 That being said I requested this because I was looking forward to reading the first book and was anticipating it so much thinking I would love it and could move on to the second。 But unfortunately I got 100 pages in and it was not my cup of tea and I couldn't go any further。 So I will not be reading this book。 Also netgalley won't let me post this without a rating so I had to give it 1 * but if I could I wouldn't have rated it anything cuz I didn't read it。 Aside from all that I hope everyone has a great day and again thank you netgalley and the publisher 。。。more

I really loved this book。 It was incredibly emotive - more so than the first book which left me weeping - and I highly recommend it。 I give five starts because of how incredible the book was and because I loved the ending。 That being said, I would feel dissatisfied if this is where Aristotle and Dante ends。 Fingers crossed we get a third book that is just as good as the first two。

4。5 stars I am a sucker for poetic writing and after the first book, I had high hopes that we'd get the same poetic writing in this sequel。 It did NOT disappoint。 I will never get over how beautifully poetic the writing is, how threads of the weather and water are constant throughout both books in the Aristotle and Dante world。 At times, mentions to water were effortless and metaphorical but occasionally, I felt they were forced in this sequel which is one reason I cannot give this book 5 stars, 4。5 stars I am a sucker for poetic writing and after the first book, I had high hopes that we'd get the same poetic writing in this sequel。 It did NOT disappoint。 I will never get over how beautifully poetic the writing is, how threads of the weather and water are constant throughout both books in the Aristotle and Dante world。 At times, mentions to water were effortless and metaphorical but occasionally, I felt they were forced in this sequel which is one reason I cannot give this book 5 stars, as much as I am tempted to。 However, this did not stop the book from being a wonderful, thoughtful take on young love。 As much as this is a love story, I found that it's also about growing up, finding love within yourself for who you are and who you are growing to be。 Aristotle (Ari) finds himself becoming a man and through the book, we see him becoming comfortable with who he is as a man which I love to see as a reader who wants to read about happy endings。 Also, as someone who spent my teenage years in my head and hiding my emotions (much like Ari), this is the book I needed to have read as a teenager。 This book shows different characters with different personalities coming to terms with adulthood - that the world isn't perfect, that there are things to hate and things to cherish in the world, and that we just have to discover them in our own time as we continue to grow and develop into a very complex world。 It's a book that I think all teenagers should read, especially the ones struggling to see any light, joy or love in the adult world。 This series is quintessentially a discovery of gay love。 Ari was tentative in the first book, hardly realising his sexuality。 However, his development in this book is astonishing in many ways and in regards to his development about his sexuality, this book is a journey that we get to feel with him as he goes from hardly wanting to accept that he's gay to being able to use the word to describe himself freely and lovingly。 Without trying to spoil too much, there is a moment where he looks at himself in the mirror to tell himself that he's gay, a moment that brought tears to my eyes because I have had that exact same moment myself, in the real world。 To see myself represented so well in a book is rare, and I am so thankful。 Overall the book has over 500 pages and I don't usually read long books。 But with short chapters reflective of a very intimate journal, I was still able to forget that I was reading。 Most of the time。 There were a lot of characters in this book, a lot of new ones too and although at first it seemed like they were unnecessary, they all added something and helped Ari to see the universe differently and become the version of himself that I love at the end。 This is a book about friendship, love and growing up。 And everyone who has ever experienced those things, particularly those going through it now, must read this book。 。。。more

Unlike most people, I did not have the pleasure of being introduced to Ari and Dante in 2012 when the first book in this series came out so I did not have to wait almost 10 years to meet these wonderful characters again。 However, in some ways I wish I had。 Ari and Dante are young and so much of their experience is told through young eyes。 Despite the fact that I read many YA novels and find that the best ones tend to transcend the limits of a YA audience, I don't believe that this book managed t Unlike most people, I did not have the pleasure of being introduced to Ari and Dante in 2012 when the first book in this series came out so I did not have to wait almost 10 years to meet these wonderful characters again。 However, in some ways I wish I had。 Ari and Dante are young and so much of their experience is told through young eyes。 Despite the fact that I read many YA novels and find that the best ones tend to transcend the limits of a YA audience, I don't believe that this book managed to do that。 As a woman in her 20's I found that I could not relate to this book or these characters。 With that said, I still believe this was a very well-written book。 The last book introduced us to Ari and Dante。 Ari was a 15 year old boy trying to navigate his way through life and learning how to understand his cultural identity, his sexual orientation and his relationship with his family。 This book picks up where the last one left off and follows Ari as he continues to navigate large and complicated emotion; this time, grief。 I enjoyed this book but I wish I had read it earlier in life so that I might have appreciated it more。 Thank you so much to NetGalley and Simon and Schuster Children's Publishing for giving me this arc! 。。。more

wow。 wowowowow。 wowowowowowowowowow。 this truly might be one of the best books I've ever read。 the first one was one of my favorite books of all time as well, so I came into this one with high expectations。 fortunately, they were met。 i intended to sit down and read it all in one night but quickly found out that wasn't realistic。 some stories are fast-paced and full of plot details that create forward momentum。 this is not one of those books (in the best way possible)。 it was immensely character wow。 wowowowow。 wowowowowowowowowow。 this truly might be one of the best books I've ever read。 the first one was one of my favorite books of all time as well, so I came into this one with high expectations。 fortunately, they were met。 i intended to sit down and read it all in one night but quickly found out that wasn't realistic。 some stories are fast-paced and full of plot details that create forward momentum。 this is not one of those books (in the best way possible)。 it was immensely character-driven which lent itself to a much slower, more intentional read: discovering the inner workings of the (wonderful) cast of characters as they were doing the same themselves。 Ari, specifically, was an absolutely stunning main character for this story and one that I feel like I got to see grow up and grow into himself。 And as Ari was learning about himself, I felt myself starting to look inward at my own small manifestation of the universe, seeing aspects of myself in ways I hadn't before。 I will absolutely be returning to this, more than once, I'm sure, and I already can't wait。 。。。more

3。5 stars。 I have been super excited for this one since I loved the first book in the series (probably in no small part to the audio narration by Lin Manuel Miranda)。 I enjoyed this sequel, but it in no way compared to the first book in the series。 My favorite part of this book is the relationships that Ari develops throughout the story (Susie, Gina, Cassandra, his mom and dad), but overall the character development was weaker and I just was not as invested in what was happening to everyone。 The 3。5 stars。 I have been super excited for this one since I loved the first book in the series (probably in no small part to the audio narration by Lin Manuel Miranda)。 I enjoyed this sequel, but it in no way compared to the first book in the series。 My favorite part of this book is the relationships that Ari develops throughout the story (Susie, Gina, Cassandra, his mom and dad), but overall the character development was weaker and I just was not as invested in what was happening to everyone。 The plot was meh in many places, and places where it could really have taken off (visiting Bernando), it just fell short (and there were some things that happened that straight up ticked me off)。 In addition, the thing that bothered me the most was the way the teens talked。。。。。it felt too adult and too enlightened to really feel true to the characters and that age group。 If you read the first book, I definitely think you need to read this one, but do not set the bar as high or you will be disappointed。 。。。more
